Wood glues are generally categorized into four categories from D1 to D4, with D4 guaranteeing the highest water resistance. While D1 has little commercial relevance today, D2 to D4 are the standard for industrial applications. Technology-wise, D3 and D4 water resistance are normally obtained via reactive co-monomers or through external crosslinkers. D4 1K systems often show stability issues, while there are concerns with D4 2K systems regarding safety, open time or shelf life. In addition, the current technology could potentially lead to a discoloration of sensitive wood species.
With the new, patented Vinnapas DPX product line, Wacker addresses these issues and offers features beyond. While having D3 water resistance, good heat resistance and fast setting, it does not require co-monomers to achieve this performance. As a result, it does not show discoloration on sensitive wood species. Moreover, with a pH close to neutral, it tolerates the addition of high amounts of fillers like calciumcarbonate while maintaining its D3 performance. Therefore: with Vinnapas DPX, the adhesive compounder now has the opportunity to supply D3 wood glue with a good WATT91 value at highly competitive prices. Applications usually utilizing D2 wood glue features could now be operated with Vinnapas DPX wood glue - thus achieving a better water and temperature resistance, and leading to a better overall performance of the final product.
