Dow has signed a long-term deal with Univar Solutions to distribute its Decarbia low-carbon product line — spanning beauty, food, pharma, and industrial markets — through Univar's global network.

US specialty ingredients and chemicals distributor Univar Solutions has acquired Canadian company FloChem and certain of its affiliates, giving Univar access to new market segments and new service capabilities. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Univar Solutions has reported that its proposed takeover by Apollo Global Management’s is making progress, with regulatory approvals now secured from the EU, the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and China. In addition, the Italian regulator has given its foreign direct investment approval.

Private equity group Apollo has agreed to acquire Univar Solutions for $8.1 billion. The transaction also includes a “minority” investment from a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Univar has acquired ChemSol, a leading ingredients and specialty chemicals distributor operating in Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, and Honduras. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Univar has entered into an agreement to buy Kale Kimya, a leading Turkish specialty chemicals distributor. Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close during the first quarter of 2023, were not disclosed.

German distribution giant Brenntag is retreating from plans to acquire US rival Univar. The company said in an ad hoc statement that it is “no longer pursuing these discussions.”

Brenntag and Univar Solutions have both confirmed reports from late last week that they are in talks about the German-multinational chemical distributor acquiring its US rival. Both companies stress that the negotiations are at a preliminary stage.

Univar Solutions has acquired Brazil’s Sweetmix Distribuidora de Materias Primas Industrais for an undisclosed sum. Based in Sao Paulo, Sweetmix offers a range of food mixtures, sweeteners and other ingredients, as well as specialty additives for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers (CASE), rubbers and plastics.
