Ineos Styrolution, a supplier of styrenics materials, recently confirmed it will not restart its styrene monomer production site in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, which has been shut down since April 2024.
US specialty materials producer Trinseo has commenced a sale process for its 50% ownership in Americas Styrenics (AmSty), a joint venture (JV) with Chevron Phillips Chemical.
Trinseo has suspended plans for the sale of its styrenics business because of the current macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. The company announced last November that it had begun exploring a potential divestment of the business, formally launching a sales process in the first quarter of this year.
As many as 9 to 11 people are believed to have died and hundreds more were hospitalized after a leak of styrene gas from an LG Polymers plant near the Indian city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 7.
