Saudi Ministry Approves Advanced Petrochemical Complex
The complex will produce 1.15 million t/y of ethylene, 850,000 t/y of propylene and 400,000 t/y of aromatics, fuels and their derivatives with start-up scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, the company said in a filing to the Saudi stock exchange.
In a separate project at Al Jubail, AGIC plans to start building a propane dehydrogenation (PDH)/PP facility this year. The 843,000 t/y PDH unit will feed two 400,000 t/y PP plants with commercial operations scheduled to start in the second half of 2024.
Lummus Technology is licensing its Catofin propylene process for the PDH plant, while LyondellBasell is proving Spheripol and Spherizone PP technologies. The project is being implemented under a jv with South Korea’s SK Gas Petrochemical, called Advanced Polyolefins.
