Lummus Wins China Projects

US licensing group Lummus Technology has won two contracts from China’s Fujian Eversun New Material to supply its Catofin technology for a 900,000 t/y propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit and its Novolen process for an 800,000 t/y PP plant in Fujian province.

The scope of the contracts includes the technology licenses plus basic design engineering, training, services and catalyst supply. Lummus added that the Catofin plant will be the world’s largest PDH unit, alongside another in China that it licensed to Fujian Meide in May. This plant, also with capacity of 900,000 t/y, is being built in Fuzhou and is scheduled to start up in 2023.

“Catofin and Novolen have very strong market positions due to their high reliability, lower capital and operating expenses, exceptional environmental performance and simple processes,” said Lummus president and CEO Leon de Bruyn. “In addition to these competitive and cost advantages, Fujian Eversun will benefit from Lummus’ unique integrated technology offering providing a single-point performance guarantee during the entire life cycle of both units, from the feed in to product output to ongoing operations.”

In June, Lummus announced the commissioning and startup of another PDH unit at Shandong Ruize Chemical Technology’s complex in Zibo City, Shandong province, China. The plant also uses Catofin technology to produce 300,000 t/y propylene.
