Dow Canada has announced it is expanding its ethylene plant in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, by approximately 130,000 t/y.

The company will add another furnace and associated equipment and expects start-up to take place during the first half of 2021. The project has received all regulatory approvals from Alberta’s Ministry of Environment and Parks, and construction is under way.

Dow said the extra ethylene will be consumed by the region’s existing PE production.
