Chemetall Completes German Site Expansion

18.11.2019 -

Chemetall, the global surface treatment unit of BASF’s coatings division, has inaugurated a new laboratory and office building in Langelsheim, Germany, completing the expansion of its production site that focuses on development and production of aerospace technologies.

To meet the increasing requirements of the market, output of Naftoseal-branded aircraft sealants was also expanded, BASF said, without detailing the overall cost of the expansion.

Dirk Bremm, President of BASF’s Coatings division, said the production upgrade at Langelsheim, touted as one of Chemetall’s largest and most versatile production facilities globally, reflects the group’s “strategic and long-term commitment to customers in the aerospace industry and supports our journey towards being a Surface Solutions provider.”

With the capacity expansion, BASF is positioning Chemetall for the future, said Christophe Cazabeau, senior vice President of Surface Treatment, adding that demand for the formerly independent company’s aerospace technologies “is high and continues to increase.”

The German plant located in the northern Harz mountains region, employs 180 people in the production of aircraft sealing compounds, anti-corrosive agents, cleaning products and other chemicals for surface treatment. The aircraft sealants are internationally accredited through the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP).
