AkzoNobel Completes Expansion of its Largest Powder Coatings Plant

The major capacity expansion was completed at AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings site in Como, Italy. The expansion is aimed to secure supply to customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Following the €21 million project, four new manufacturing lines are now up and running at AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings site in Como, Italy. Specifically, two of these lines are dedicated to automotive primers, while the other two focus on architectural coatings. Additionally, new bonding equipment lines have been introduced to ensure that the products meet and exceed industry standards.

“Increasing our capabilities in Como is a significant milestone which supports our ambition to create safety of supply for our customers,” commented Sanal Limoncuoglu, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business in South and East Europe (S&EE) and Middle East Africa (MEA). “We’re now well equipped to serve all our customers in the EMEA region with highly efficient lines that are state-of-the-art in terms of consistency and quality.”

The expanded capacity in Como has been implemented within the renovated building, originally used for powder coatings production. This sustainable repurposing of an existing area on the site, established back in 1992, aligns with AkzoNobel’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The new manufacturing lines operate with recycled energy and prioritize sustainable production, contributing to the company’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

AkzoNobel’s Como facility stands as the company’s largest powder coatings plant. It caters to seven primary market segments, including home appliances, architecture, automotive, agriculture and construction machinery, trade coaters, furniture, and general industry.
