Finnish chemicals company Kemira has entered into a multi-year license and supply agreement with US biopolymer manufacturer Danimer Scientific to commercialize bio-based barrier coatings for paper and board products.
Bioplastics producer Danimer Scientific is collaborating with Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) to explore a loop slurry reactor design for making a type of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) called Rinnovo. The Rinnovo PHA is synthesized from lactones produced using Danimer’s proprietary Novo22 catalyst technology, which can be used to make biodegradable alternatives to traditional, fossil-based plastics.
US bioplastics company Danimer Scientific has agreed to pay $152 million cash for Novomer, a developer and producer of biodegradable materials. Both companies’ boards of directors have approved the deal, which is expected to close in the third quarter.
