No-fee, Web-based Chemical Drawing Tool

Symyx has the release of Symyx JDraw Applet-a no-fee Java program that enables software developers to add chemical structure and reaction capabilities to Web applications. Scientists using Symyx JDraw Applet can rapidly draw and display accurate chemical structures and reactions in a Web browser while leveraging Symyx's leading chemistry representation technology.

"We are very pleased to offer Symyx JDraw Applet as a no-charge download to existing Symyx Draw licensees and to students, teachers and researchers working in academic and not-for-profit institutions," said Dr. Trevor Heritage, president of Symyx's software business unit. "Without additional cost and with zero footprint, scientists can utilize Web- based applications with top quality chemistry functionality and representation similar to the popular ISIS/Draw and Symyx Draw tools they already have on their desktop."

The new Symyx JDraw Applet delivers much needed functionality to existing chemical drawing tools designed for the Web, including fast start-up and download, Markush structure representation, enhanced stereochemistry, grid displays of chemical structures, and comprehensive structure and reaction searching-all of which help scientists quickly locate relevant information for their research.

Symyx JDraw Applet is already in use today as the default structure editor/renderer used with the Royal Society of Chemistry's (RSC's) InChI Resolver supporting the generation and look-up of InChIStrings and InChIKeys (http://inchis.chemspider.com/Default.aspx), and it is an available editor for use with the RSC's ChemSpider chemistry information service (www.chemspider.com). In addition, Symyx JDraw Applet is the structure editor for the all new DiscoveryGate content platform.
