We spoke with Co-Founders Alba Impelmann (CEO) and Mark Deeprose (CTO) about IsoSphere Technologies, one of the finalists in the From Lab to Market Challenge.

CHEManager: What is your technology, and what makes it work?

Alba Impelmann & Mark Deeprose: IsoSphere Technologies develops novel CO₂-based approaches for the production of high-value ¹³C-labelled compounds used in drug discovery and advanced metabolic imaging for cancer research. By combining innovative carbon conversion chemistry with proprietary process design, we aim to enable a more scalable, resource-efficient, and resilient supply of critical isotope-labelled molecules for the pharmaceutical and life science industries.

What problem does your technology solve, and what is the business potential?

A. Impelmann & M. Deeprose: ¹³C-labelled compounds are essential for drug development, precision medicine, and next-generation diagnostics, yet global supply remains costly, limited, and dependent on vulnerable supply chains. IsoSphere Technologies addresses this challenge through an innovative CO₂-based production approach targeting rapidly growing international markets in pharma and advanced diagnostics.

What's the next milestone your team is working towards?

A. Impelmann & M. Deeprose: Our team is currently focused on validating key production steps, expanding industry collaborations, and advancing scalable manufacturing routes for strategically important ¹³C-labelled compounds. In parallel, we are preparing IP protection, pilot collaborations, and funding activities to accelerate industrial development.
