Symrise Strengthens Food & Beverage Capacities in Barcelona

On April 22, 2026, Symrise opened its modernized Food & Beverage site in Parets del Vallès near Barcelona.

With this investment, Symrise is expanding its capacities for products in powder form as well as food and beverage solutions. The expansion also strengthens application technology and links Southern Europe more closely with Africa and the Middle East.

Southern Europe is developing rapidly and is shaping the food and beverage industry as a center of innovation. Spain is closely linking European markets with North Africa and the Middle East. In this context, short development cycles, reliable scaling, and strong partners with extensive market knowledge are playing an increasingly important role for manufacturers so that they can respond to dynamic customer requirements. With the expansion and modernization of the site in the Barcelona area, Symrise is bringing development, testing, and production closer together and shortening the path from idea to market launch.

At the opening ceremony, Lilian Regnier, President of Food & Beverage EAME, said: "This investment combines scalability, flexibility, and proximity. We are helping our customers to bring innovations to market with confidence while strengthening our regional presence in the Iberian Peninsula." Liam Pickup, Vice President Food & Beverage Europe, added: "The improved production and application capabilities support the growth of dry savory products and beverage powders while integrating sustainability into daily operations."

Expansion of Application Expertise Close to Customers

Modernized development, application, and quality laboratories accelerate prototyping, testing, and optimization across multiple categories. Specialized laboratories for ready meals and culinary applications expand the technical expertise on-site. They support customers in solving specific challenges, precisely balancing sensory profiles and bringing products to market faster.

Symrise also installed a new large-scale mixing plant, thereby expanding its capacities for powder products. Culinary, snack, dry beverage, and sweet applications in particular will benefit from this. Higher volumes, an optimized plant layout, and modern equipment increase efficiency, flexibility, and safety and create a robust basis for further growth.

Future-Oriented Site with Clear Prospects

The expanded production and application possibilities allow fast and flexible reactions to customer requirements and market changes. Customers benefit from shorter development cycles, smooth scaling, and direct access to local technical expertise with in-depth knowledge of regional preferences and regulatory requirements. This proximity specifically supports further growth in Spain and neighboring markets.

The site in the Barcelona area consistently integrates sustainability into its operations. Solar panels and a water treatment system reduce the use of resources and promote responsible business practices. At the same time, the expanded infrastructure opens up scope for future expansion stages and additional jobs and underlines Symrise's long-term commitment to Southern Europe.
