Sumitomo Chemical Signs India Semiconductor MoU
Sumitomo Chemical has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Electronics to explore a collaboration on building a semiconductor supply chain in India.

Under the MoU, Sumitomo Chemical will examine measures for a stable supply of semiconductor materials, including the potential establishment of a semiconductor chemicals facility in India.
India's government has made growing its semiconductor industry a national strategic priority, and Tata Electronics is building the country's first front-end semiconductor fabrication plant. With India's semiconductor and materials markets set to expand, Sumitomo Chemical sees the project as a way to strengthen the industry's foundation locally.
Sumitomo Chemical has made semiconductor materials a priority within its ICT & Mobility Solutions sector, supplying advanced photoresists and semiconductor chemicals, and building a reputation in high-purity chemicals through ultra-high-purity technologies, quality assurance and global supply capabilities.
The company has also been expanding this business globally, growing capacity in Japan and South Korea, opening a site in Texas in 2022, and acquiring Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation in 2026, with plants in Taiwan and Nevada. It has also launched Advanced High-Purity Chemical Centers in Japan and South Korea in 2026 to develop production and recycling technologies. The potential Tata Electronics partnership will help it assess further opportunities in India.
