Russian chemical company Shchekinoazot has selected Haldor Topsoe’s ammonia technology for a new plant.

The facility, which will produce 1,500 t/day of ammonia and 2,000 t/day of urea, will be located in Tula, and China National Chemical Engineering is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Shchekinoazot did not give a start-up.

Peter Vang Christensen, managing director of Topsoe’s Moscow office, noted that the contract marks its fifth joint project with the Russian company.

In February this year, Shchekinoazot signed a loan agreement with Russian banks VEB.RF and Gazprombank for a methanol project. The 500,000 t/y plant at the Shchekino industrial site will cost 22 billion rubles and start-up is scheduled for 2022.
