S-Oil To Supply 2.4 Million Barrels Oil Products To Japan

South Korea's third-largest crude oil refiner S-Oil said in a statement on Thursday that it would supply 2.4 million barrels of oil products to quake-hit Japan as requested by Japanese refiners.

The statement also said it was actively considering ways to help Japanese refiners with disposal of surplus crude oil amid refining facility shutdowns in Japan.
S-Oil's emergency oil product supply brings total such shipments by South Korea's four oil refiners to about 4.5 million barrels so far as Japanese refiners grapple with the loss of about a third of their 4.5 million barrel-per-day (bpd) refining capacity due to the country's worst quake on record.

The earthquake that struck the world's third-largest economy and oil consumer also caused the loss of around 9,700 megawatts (MW) of nuclear and 10,831 MW of thermal power generation and sparked a nuclear crisis.
