Nuberg Wins Egypt Sulfuric Acid Project

Indian engineering group Nuberg has been awarded a sulfuric acid project in Egypt. Chemicals and plastics manufacturer Sprea Misr has granted a lumpsum turnkey contract for the project’s engineering, procurement and construction services. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The 500 t/d plant at Ramadan will be based on Nuberg’s proprietary double contact double absorption process technology, which Nuberg said is used to produce sulfuric acid in the high concentrations necessary for industrial processes. The sulfuric acid output will be supplied to the agriculture industry for producing urea and other fertilizers.

Anil Tyagi, managing director of Nuberg Engineering, said the company is “committed to commission the project by the first quarter of 2022, faster than the industry average of 16 months.”

Nuberg said the contract is the fourth turnkey project for the company in Egypt. The contractor has completed three other projects including a caustic soda plant for Egyptian Petrochemical in Alexandria, a calcium chloride plant for TCI Sanmar Chemicals in Port Said, and a sulfuric acid plant for Agrochem in Alexandria.
