LyondellBasell Wins PP/PE Deals

LyondellBasell has been chosen by Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (DRPIC) to license its PP and HDPE technologies for new plants to be built in Al Duqm, Oman. The plants will have capacities of 280,000 t/y PP and 480,000 t/y HDPE, using Spheripol and Hostalen technologies, respectively.

“The Spheripol and Hostalen technology licenses form part of 12 technology license packages awarded by DRPIC to international technology providers, advancing the front end engineering and design progress toward achieving shareholders’ final investment decision in 2021,” said DRPIC CEO Salim Al Huthaili.

He added: “Due to the increasing global demand for petrochemical products, the DRPIC petrochemical project will become a significant player in the region, benefiting from its strategic location on the Oman eastern sea board with direct access to international markets. Working with long established technology licensors enables us to develop a world-class project empowering the future development of downstream petrochemical industries in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm.”

The award follows another win in July for Spheripol technology from Quanzhou Grand Pacific Chemical, the wholly owned Chinese subsidiary of Taiwan’s Grand Pacific Petrochemical. The technology will be used in a 450,000 t/y PP plant to be built in Quanzhou, China. An on-stream date was not disclosed.
