Long time Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris, now executive chairman of DowDuPont, has been tapped to take part in a US trade mission to China

Long time Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris, now executive chairman of DowDuPont, has been tapped to take part in a US trade mission to China this week, joining President Donald Trump, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and other prominent business leaders on a trade mission to China this week.

In a statement, Liveris said the trade mission will “promote commercial successes while seeking to reduce the US trade deficit with China through increasing exports of high-value US goods and services to China and by improving access for U.S. manufacturers to China’s growing markets.”

“Secretary Ross and the entire Trump administration understand that it is in everyone’s interest to promote constructive engagement between China and the US that focuses on removing the barriers to fair and reciprocal market access and ensuring that companies are competing on fair commercial terms,” said Liveris.

“The US and China have obviously grown into important partners in trade and other areas and I am encouraged and thankful for the opportunity to participate in the dialogue between these great countries,” the executive added.

Dow, which recently merged with DuPont to become DowDuPont, counts China is its second largest overseas market. As of this year, the Midland, Michigan-based chemical and plastics giant operated 10 business centers, 17 manufacturing sites and nearly 5,000 employees across the People’s Republic.

During the trade mission, Liveris and Hu Weiwei, founder and president of Mobike, will sign a memorandum of understanding for a long-term strategic partnership to develop products and solutions for lighter-weight and more environmentally friendly bicycles in China.

The two sides are currently working on developing polyurethane materials for tires, saddle materials and electric lock seals, as well as other specialty elastomers, adhesives and coatings.
