Linde and Snam Link on Clean Hydrogen

Industrial gases group Linde has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian energy infrastructure company Snam to jointly develop clean hydrogen projects in Europe.

The companies will work together to promote key technologies along the hydrogen value chain and develop opportunities for joint investments in commercial projects in the areas of production, distribution, compression and storage.

"Hydrogen is expected to play a significant role in achieving the European Green Deal goals," said Linde CEO Steve Angel. "We are pleased to collaborate with Snam, a recognized leader at the forefront of the energy transition, in the development of the clean hydrogen economy in Europe."

In August, Linde announced that it had been selected by the European Commission as a new member of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, which was founded in March 2020 as part of Europe’s new industrial strategy.

The Alliance, which brings together leading European industrial companies as well as representatives from politics and civil society, aims to support the scaling up of production and demand for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, coordinate action and provide a broad forum for societal engagement.

The Commission adopted on Jul. 8 a dedicated strategy to explore clean hydrogen’s potential for decarbonizing the EU economy in a cost-effective way, in line with its climate-neutral goal for 2050, which is part of the European Green Deal, the region’s action plan for a sustainable economy.
