The Urethane Systems business unit of German specialty chemicals producer Lanxess recently started up a new production unit for of high performance prepolymers at its site in Porto Feliz, Brazil, thereby expanding overall output capability. Application development and technical services are also being provided from a state-of-the-art laboratory at the site.

Markus Eckert, Head of the Urethane Systems business unit, said Lanxess is “committed to the Brazilian and South American market.” With the new facilities, he said, the company’s global and local customers will be able to profit from faster supply as well as engineering and technical services.

With expertise in cast elastomers, coatings, adhesives and sealants, the Cologne-based chemical producer is a systems provider to the global PU industry. Its portfolio includes conventional and low free isocyanate prepolymers and special aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUDs). Catalysts and curing agents for cast elastomers, along with technologies for coatings, adhesives and sealants, round out the offerings.

For the company as a whole, Lanxess’ special focus is on solvent-free and monomer-free prepolymer systems, as well as easy-to-use blocked crosslinkers. The Urethane System business operates production facilities and application development centers in all major economic regions, including Brazil, the US, India, China, Australia, Italy and the UK.
