IMCD Opens New Life Science Hub in Shanghai
IMCD recently announced the opening of its newly reorganised and expanded Life Science Laboratory hub in Shanghai.

The newly inaugurated Life Science Laboratory hub is dedicated to supporting life science industries with newly established or upgraded laboratories for Beauty & Personal Care, Pharmaceuticals, and Food & Nutrition. The hub brings together the three laboratories to increase cross-industry exchanges and enhance IMCD's offerings to its customers and partners. The compound is part of the East China University of Science & Technology, allowing close collaboration with the University on talent development and innovation.
IMCD operates a global network of over 80 technical centres and laboratories that support collaboration with suppliers and customers. These facilities combine local expertise with global resources to help address formulation challenges and support the development of new products.

Highlights of the new Life Science Laboratory hub:
- Food & Nutrition laboratory: focuses on applications in dairy, bakery, and savoury foods, offering customised product development such as ready-to-eat samples and formulation kits. It provides technical training, collaborative development with R&D teams, and industry events, along with on-site technical support for production environments in China.
- Pharmaceuticals laboratory: serves the North Asia region, offering reverse-engineering, troubleshooting, formulation development, and comparative analysis for various dosage forms, including solid, liquid, and semi-solid preparations. It also provides technical training and specialised services such as rheological measurements and chemical analysis.
- Beauty & Personal Care laboratory: covers China for formulation development and the Asia-Pacific region for efficacy testing, supporting areas like skincare, sun care, hair care, toiletries, and colour cosmetics. It features specialised instruments for efficacy testing, a Beauty Studio for collaborative formulation development, and a hair salon for product testing and demonstration.
“The new Life Science Laboratory hub represents an exciting step forward for IMCD in China,” said Nicky Huang, Managing Director for IMCD China. “It demonstrates our long-term investment in building local capabilities, strengthening our ability to serve customers with scientific expertise and market knowledge. By integrating advanced technical facilities with a customer-focused approach, we are creating meaningful opportunities for growth and innovation.”
