Eastman Expands Spanish Fiber Capacity

US chemical and specialty materials producer Eastman has announced plans to increase capacity of Naia filament yarn at its site in Barcelona, Spain. The company said the project will lift capacity by 30% by mid-2021 and more than 50% by the end of 2022, and will serve rapidly growing demand. Naia is a cellulosic fiber made from sustainably sourced wood.

“The growing importance of sustainability and circularity as key market drivers is accelerating adoption of sustainable fibers. As a result, Naia cellulosic filament yarn is gaining a lot of traction among our customers,” said vice president and general manager of fibers, Burt Capel.

The company added that the expansion will also support new brand adoptions of Naia in womenswear fashion, where there is a growing demand for sustainable fibers.
