Dow’s Liveris Elected to IBM Board of Directors

IBM's board of directors has elected Andrew N. Liveris to the board. Liveris is chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Dow Chemical Company.

Samuel J. Palmisano, IBM chairman, president and chief executive officer, said: "We are very pleased that Andrew Liveris will be joining the IBM board of directors. Andrew has great experience in the Asian markets and in running complex, global enterprises, and his knowledge and insights will make a significant contribution to IBM."

Liveris became chief executive officer of The Dow Chemical Company in 2004, and has spent 33 years at Dow in manufacturing, engineering, sales, marketing, and business and general management, with responsibility for all of Dow's businesses. He has spent the majority of his career in Asia, where he rose to head all of Dow's Asia-Pacific operations. He has been Dow's chairman of the board since April 2006.

A native of Darwin, Australia, Liveris received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Queensland, receiving a university medal. He is also a director of Citigroup and he serves as a trustee of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation and of Tufts University. He is chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council, vice chairman of the Business Roundtable, and a member of the Executive Committee of The Business Council. He is also a member of the U.S.-India CEO Forum, the United States Climate Action Partnership, the National Petroleum Council and a board member of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is a chartered engineer and a Fellow of The Institute of Chemical Engineers.

With the election of Mr. Liveris, the IBM board now has 14 members.
