Climasel – Optimizing Energy Efficiency
The woman-led start-up from Azerbaijan develops and produces energy-efficient indoor panels, which store heat during the day and release it at night.

The product is based on the technology of so-called phase changing materials (PCMs) and optimizes the latter by incorporating biodegradable materials from a natural source. This solution not only reduces energy cost, but also the cooling energy needed by 25 % and lowering the emissions from cooling significantly by up to 30 %. The activation point for the switch between heat storage and release can be adjusted to the climate the building is based at. This scalable solution provides more sustainable cooling options for corporative offices and construction companies worldwide.
For these reasons, Climasel has been chosen as one of the ISC3 Innovation Challenge finalists 2025, and now featured by the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre as ISC3 Start-up of the Month for September 2025.
The simple yet powerful design allows the panels to act like “heat batteries”, reducing the need for conventional air conditioning. Unlike energy-hungry AC systems or existing PCM solutions that rely on heavy plastics and complex encapsulation, Climasel’s panels are thin, lightweight, leak-proof, and highly efficient – boasting an absorption rate of up to 240 joules per gram. The panels not only cut energy use but also minimize environmental impact. They are manufactured using bio-based materials and are designed to deliver reliable thermal performance for up to 10,000 cycles, which corresponds to approximately 10 to 15 years of use in typical building applications. At the end of its lifecycle, the panels naturally biodegrade under appropriate conditions, eliminating the need for special disposal processes.
The whole success story of the ISC3 Start-up of the Month in September 2025 is currently told by the ISC3 on its website at Climasel (isc3.org).

Three questions for Khayala Miriyeva (Founder & CEO of Climasel):
What led to your solution in Sustainable Chemistry?
Khayala Miriyeva: The main driver was the rising negative environmental Impact and the economic cost of energy and the challenges it creates for people in their daily lives. Compared to conventional air conditioners, cooling costs are extremely high, and we wanted to create a solution that could reduce this burden. At the same time, the world is moving towards being more sustainable, and we wanted to make our own contribution in this direction. That is how Climasel was born.
What does being chosen as ISC3 Innovation Challenge finalist and ISC3 Start-up of the Month mean to you?
K. Miriyeva: Being chosen as a finalist for the ISC3 Innovation Challenge 2025 is a great honor for us, as it recognizes the hard work and dedication, we have invested in developing Climasel. It is more than just a milestone; it is a validation that our solution has real potential to make an impact in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable cities. This recognition motivates our team to continue pushing forward, and it gives us a valuable platform to connect with international experts, partners, and investors who can support us in scaling our innovation.
Being named ISC3 Start-up of the Month is an exciting opportunity for us, as it greatly increases Climasel’s visibility and allows our story to reach a wider, international audience. We are grateful to ISC3 for providing a platform that amplifies our mission and inspires us to continue innovating and scaling our impact.
What’s next up at Climasel?
K. Miriyeva: Looking ahead, our next step is to successfully complete our pilot projects and use the data to validate the performance of Climasel panels in different types of buildings. With this proof, we plan to enter the market by covering more commercial areas in Azerbaijan and then Europe, focusing first on corporative offices. At the same time, we aim to strengthen collaborations with construction companies and energy stakeholders to integrate our panels into sustainable building practices. In the long term, our vision is to scale Climasel internationally, making natural cooling an accessible and affordable solution for cities worldwide, while continuously improving our technology to maximize energy efficiency and environmental impact.
