China Joins Clean Sweep Scheme

The China Plastics Processing Industry Association CPPIA has joined nearly 20 other international trade organizations in Operation Clean Sweep (OCS), an initiative aimed at eliminating pellet loss in manufacturing plastics goods and thus cutting down on marine litter.

The “zero-pellet loss” scheme was launched in 2011 by the US Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) in cooperation with the American Chemistry Council (ACC). European plastics industry associations are participating via their umbrella organization PlasticsEurope.

SPI called China’s participation “a crucial piece of the puzzle” in eliminating marine litter.
