BioPhorum's Digital Technology Transfer Playbook
BioPhorum’s Digital technology transfer playbook: Guiding principles introduces the foundational principles of digital technology transfer (DTT), providing guidance on how digital tools, structured data objects and digital product definitions can improve transfer efficiency and consistency.

BioPhorum, the collaborative industry group representing biopharmaceutical manufacturers, has published a new playbook to help companies digitize one of the industry's most persistent pain points: technology transfer.
The "Digital Technology Transfer Playbook: Guiding Principles" lays out a foundational framework for how manufacturers can move away from manual, document-heavy transfer processes and toward standardized digital approaches. Technology transfer — the process of moving a manufacturing process from one site, scale, or partner to another — has traditionally relied on static documents, spreadsheets, and institutional knowledge that can be slow to compile and prone to errors or misinterpretation as information passes between teams.
The guidance reflects a broader push across the biopharmaceutical sector to modernize manufacturing and quality operations through digitalization, as companies face pressure to scale production faster, support multi-site and contract manufacturing networks, and reduce the risk of costly transfer failures. Industry groups and regulators alike have increasingly flagged technology transfer as an area where digital standardization could meaningfully cut timelines and improve right-first-time outcomes.
