BASF Boosts North American Supply of Bio-Based Surfactants With Cincinnati APG Expansion
Expansion strengthens local supply and supports demand for bio-based and biodegradable surfactants in North America. The enhancement complements BASF's global APG production network, including sites in Germany, China and Thailand.

BASF has inaugurated the expansion of its alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) production capacity at its Cincinnati, Ohio site. The investment reinforces BASF's position as a leading APG supplier in the United States and further strengthens its regional manufacturing footprint. First announced in 2023, the expansion enhances BASF's ability to supply customers from within North America while increasing agility across its global production network.
"The Cincinnati expansion represents an important step in reinforcing BASF's leadership in the US APG market," said Gisela Pinheiro, BASF Senior Vice President, Home Care and Industrial & Institutional Cleaning. "Combining our broad APG portfolio and formulation expertise with expanded regional production allows us to work even more closely with customers. It strengthens our ability to support innovation and sustainability targets across a wide range of applications."
APGs are bio-based, readily biodegradable (according to OECD 301), mild, non-ionic surfactants derived from 100 percent natural and renewable feedstocks. Their excellent performance and compatibility with other surfactants make them highly versatile ingredients for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, industrial formulations, and agricultural applications.
In addition to Cincinnati, BASF produces APGs at sites in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, China; and Bangpakong, Thailand. Together, these facilities form a global manufacturing network that enables BASF to provide reliable supply and greater responsiveness to customer needs across regions.
