Barentz Acquires Volp in Brazil

The consolidation in the distribution sector continues. In the latest deal, Life Sciences distributor Barentz International has announced the acquisition of Volp Indústria e Comércio, a Brazilian distributor of supplies and solutions for the Personal Care sector.

Barentz said the newly acquired business, which employs 50 people, has built a strong position in the Brazilian personal care market in the past 29 years, supported by both a strong sales force and its own development and application laboratories.

Additionally, the Dutch distributor said, Volp perfectly complements the current activities of its Brazilian joint venture Tovani Benzaquen Ingredients and also strengthens and balances the group’s position in Life Sciences. Volp’s current management team will continue to run the business.

Hidde van der Wal, CEO of Barentz, said the strong customer base and the complementary product portfolio of its new acquisition will not only strengthen the company’s existing offering in the Brazilian market, but also present new opportunities in the South American region.

Sérgio Nunes, director of Volp, added that the acquisition will give his company an opportunity to further grow in the local and regional market by leveraging its personal care expertise within Barentz’ regional and global network.

With a turnover of €2.1 billion, the Hoofddorp-based distributor employs around 2,000 people in more than 65 countries. It has a strong presence in Europe and North America and a rapidly growing network in South America and Asia-Pacific.
