Air Liquide to Install Four New Hydrogen Filling Stations in Denmark

In a project supported by the European Commission, French industrial gases producer Air Liquide will install four new hydrogen filling stations in Denmark, as part of the Copenhagen Hydrogen Network by the end of 2014.

The four filling stations, including two in Copenhagen, one in Aalborg and one in Vejle, will join two already in service, in Copenhagen and in Holstebro. They will be commissioned by Air Liquide with the help of its Danish partner H2 Logic, one of the biggest producers of zero emission fuel cell systems for handling devices and hydrogen refuelling stations for fuel cell vehicles.

The stations mark a "significant step" in the creation of a distribution network at national level, the French company said. They will allow fuel cell electric vehicles to refuel all over Denmark in under five minutes, for a range of 500 km.

All of the stations will be fitted with an electrolyzer, allowing them to produce the hydrogen on site. This additional technology will produce totally decarbonized hydrogen (with no CO₂ emissions) using clean electricity from renewable energy sources.

The Danish government's target is to have 100 % renewable energy by 2050.

Air Liquide is actively involved in setting up the hydrogen energy industry at global level, in particular through initiatives aimed at building hydrogen filling stations in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, the UK and the US, along with South Korea and Japan.
