The Business Impact of Climate Change
“Extreme events have the greatest potential to produce natural catastrophes that affect businesses, jobs or economies on a regional or global scale.” That is how Dr. Kevin Trenberth, distinguished senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, stated a key point in a new white paper that studies the impact of climate change on U.S. businesses. Dr. Trenberth is one of four distinguished scientists who participated with FM Global to develop the document. Other contributors include Kerry Emanuel, professor of atmospheric sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Minghua Zhang, dean of the School of Marine Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University; Dennis Lettenmaier, distinguished professor at the University of California, Los Angeles; and members of FM Global’s internal research team.
The 10-page paper, titled Coping with Extremes: The Impact of Climate Change on Extreme Precipitation and Flooding in the United States and How Businesses Can Prepare Now, explores the implications of climate change and advises businesses on how they can prepare for the extreme weather patterns brought on by climate change.
