French specialty materials manufacturer Arkema has opened its new technologies innovation lab for ultraviolet-light-cured (UV-cured), light emitting diode (LED-cured) and electron-beam-cured (EB-cured) curable resins and additives for specialty coating and adhesive applications at the company’s Kyoto Technical Center (KTC).
BASF is to invest in the expansion of its advanced additives plant at Nanjing, China. The expansion includes a state-of-the-art production line for the company’s high-performance controlled free radical polymerization (CFRP) dispersants used in the coatings industry. The new line is planned to start up by the end of 2025.
Specialty chemicals company Orion, a producer of carbon black, broke ground on a battery materials plant in Texas, US. According to Orion, the facility will be the only one in the US producing acetylene-based conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries and other applications for the growing electrification.

Ineos Enterprises has signed an agreement to buy MBCC Group’s admixture business from Sika. The deal is required by European antitrust regulators to approve Sika’s purchase of the MBCC Group, formerly BASF Construction Chemicals. The transaction is scheduled to complete in the first half of this year, subject to regulatory approvals.
