Organo-modified Silicone for Sun Care Products

Photo

The HallStar Company, a specialty chemical company headquartered in Chicago, Ill., introduces HallBrite PSF, a new, photostabilizing silicone fluid that photostabilizes the active ingredients in sunscreens while improving the feel and spreadability of sun care and daily wear products with sun protection factors.

HallBrite PSF (INCI: Undecylcrylene Dimethicone) combines HallStar's proven, triplet-quenching photostabilizer technology with the aesthetic benefits of silicone. The resulting organo-modified silicone polymer provides a lubricious skin feel and photostabilizes sunscreen active ingredients such as Avobenzone. The patent-pending compound is a multifunctional ingredient that delivers the silky feel consumers want in a lotion or cream with the photostabilization needed to provide long-lasting and effective UVA and UVB sun protection. As an added benefit, HallBrite PSF may also aid in the dispersion of metal oxides such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and iron oxide in both sun care and color makeup applications.

Developed by Tony O'Lenick, President and Founder of Siltech LLC; and Craig Bonda, Director, Research & Development - Personal Care Ingredients at HallStar; HallBrite PSF is one of the first of many cutting-edge technologies to result from a cooperative development agreement to create and market new and innovative ingredients for personal care formulations.
