Italian contractor Tecnimont has won contracts worth a total of about $10 million to provide technology-driven engineering services and feasibility studies for petrochemical projects in Russia, India and South Korea.

One contract relates to developing front end engineering design (FEED) and subsequent detailed engineering for the high-pressure section of an LDPE plant in South Korea for an undisclosed “major Asia-Pacific energy and chemical company”, which is developing a new grassroots integrated petrochemical complex.

The other two awards are for feasibility studies – one for a new PP plant by Borealis in India and the other for an additional acrylonitrile line for Lukoil OOO Saratovorgsintez in Russia.

Tecnimont gave no further details on the latter two projects. However, last October Borealis signed an agreement with BASF, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Adani Group to jointly study a chemical complex in Mundra, Gujarat, India. The complex would include a propane dehydrogenation plant to provide propylene feedstock for a PP plant, which would use Borealis’s Borstar technology.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of the Maire Tecnimont Group, commented that the contracts confirm the company is continuing its business activities during the coronavirus crisis. This, he said, is partly due to the early adoption of its Digital Advantage Smart Platform, which has allowed the group to adapt to the current situation.

Launched in 2015, the “transformational” platform has meant that about 5,000 Tecnimont engineers from centers in Milan and Rome in Italy; Mumbai, India; Moscow, Russia; Sittard, the Netherlands; Braunschweig, Germany and Houston, Texas, USA, are able to work from home and coordinate within connected multi-local project teams.
