Solvay and its affiliate Peroxidos do Brasil – a joint venture with Produtos Quimicos Makay – have agreed to supply the Belgian chemical producer’s myH2O2 technology for a small dedicated hydrogen peroxide production unit Suzano Papel e Celulose is building at its pulp mill site in Imperatriz, Maranhão.

This is the first agreement Solvay has signed for its the technology, developed for installation at remote customer premises. The plant will use Suzano's hydrogen feedstock, utilities and site services and supply all of the site's hydrogen peroxide needs for pulp bleaching. It will be controlled from Solvay's peroxides plant in Curitiba, about 2,700 km to the south.

The myH2O2® units, with production capacities ranging from 5,000 t/y to 20,000 t/y, are claimed to have a low environmental footprint as they limit H2O2 truck supplies and reuse the hydrogen already available from other production processes on the customer's site.

Solvay said it is discussing several opportunities for its satellite myH2O2 plants with customers at remote locations worldwide. This first agreement shows the “unmatched scope of Solvay’s hydrogen peroxide technology capabilities,” which range from building and operating these small satellite units to mega units with a capacity exceeding 300,000 t/y, said Georges Crauser, president of the company’s Peroxides global business unit.

Walter Schalka, CEO of Suzano Papel e Celulose, said that building the on-site facility using the Solvay technology will help to reduce costs when the company expands its H2O2 production up to 2017
