Royal Dutch Shell said it would import products from around the region to replace output from its Clyde refinery in Australia, which it plans to convert into a fuel terminal in 2013.
It intends to continue supplying all its existing customers after the plant stops refining, Shell vice-president Andrew Smith told reporters.
Smith said the proposal had nothing to do with the Australian government's proposed carbon tax.
