Pulcra Chemicals Acquires Devan

06.07.2021 - German specialty chemicals producer Pulcra Chemicals has acquired Belgium’s Devan for an undisclosed sum. The deal is the first in Pulcra’s history. The Geretsried-headquartered company, which supplies process chemicals to the textile and leather industries, was previously the process chemicals business of Cognis. It was carved out in separate legal entities on Jul. 1, 2007, and renamed.

Pulcra employs about 1,000 staff and has a global network that covers 13 different locations and includes production, laboratory facilities, service centers and sales offices.

Devan, owned since 2013 by Belgian private equity fund Pentahold, develops specialty chemicals that provide protection/functionality to textiles, including flame retardancy, performance (odor control and stain release), thermoregulation, health and wellness (allergen control), as well as masterbatch technologies for fibers and yarns. The company has offices in the UK, Portugal and the US, as well as a team in Shanghai, China.

“The acquisition of Devan will support our vision of being the leading international benchmark for sustainable chemistry.” said Ümit Yaldiz, CEO of Pulcra Chemicals Group. “With our combined platform, Pulcra will become a stronger partner for our customers, uniquely positioning us to address our customers’ evolving needs.”

Devan’s CEO Sven Ghyselinck added that the company’s new owner will allow it to “find a faster way into the global textile market and help the textile industry to benefit from more sustainable products.”
