PPG Expands in Mexico and USA

PPG has announced separate projects in Mexico and the US to expand capacity for powder coatings and adhesives and sealants respectively.

The company plans to invest $11 million to double output of powder coatings in San Juan del Rio, Mexico, in order to meet anticipated future demand in the country. The expansion is due to be completed by the middle of 2023.

“With this investment, the plant will have new, state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, enhancing production practices and process flow,” said Guillermo Peña, PPG director, industrial coatings, Mexico. “It will further improve the plant's productivity and benefit our customers with improved service levels and faster response.”

The project will involve the installation of new production lines, upgrades to existing equipment and increased application capabilities. The increase in production will also allow PPG to locally manufacture products that are currently supplied from the US.

These include Coraflon Platinum powder coating for architectural aluminum extrusions and three Envirocron products – high transfer efficiency (HTE) coatings for complex and difficult-to-coat surfaces, Extreme Protection Edge coatings for improved edge corrosion performance in one coat, and HeatSense low-temperature-cure coatings for wood-based substrates and metals.

Meanwhile, PPG is also proposing to spend $9 million to expand an existing production line for adhesives and sealants at its facility in Temple, Texas, USA. The project is subject to the conclusion of negotiations with Temple Economic Development Corporation, the City of Temple and Bell County.

PPG’s Temple plant manufactures its Liquid Nails and Mulco brands. The project is expected to create 12 new jobs.
