Oqema Buys Slovenia’s Alpkem

German distribution group Oqema has acquired Alpkem, a Slovenia-based firm with its main offices in Kranj. Oqema said the deal strengthens its inorganic product line and circular economy business, as well as its infrastructure in southeast Europe. Financial terms were not disclosed.

László Piry, hub director of Oqema Southeast Europe said: “Alpkem is in an ideal warehouse location and will offer us opportunities far beyond Slovenia."

Alpkem will be integrated into Oqema Slovenia and managed by its founder Marko Strazisar. "As a supplier of inorganic products with a focus on laboratory chemistry, Alpkem has also made a name for itself in waste management, making an effective contribution to the circular economy. This is a great addition to our existing business in this region and a step towards a more sustainable future," Strazisar said.

Family-owned Oqema, which celebrates its 100-year anniversary this year, said it has grown to become one of Europe’s top 10 distributors, adding that it will “recognize growth opportunities, seize them and solidly continue to expand our presence in Europe.”

Just last month, the company announced its acquisition of Spain’s Tecnufar Iberia, boosting its footprint in the region’s food ingredients and additives market.
