Maire Tecnimont Wins Azerbaijan PE Contract

Two subsidiaries of Italian engineering contractor Maire Tecnimont have won a lump sum turnkey contract to build a polyethylene (PE) plant for SOCAR Polymer in Azerbaijan.

Under the contract, which is worth approximately $180 million, Tecnimont and KT-Kinetics Technology will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the plant at the Sumgayit Petrochemical Complex, near Baku.

The 120,000 t/y PE plant will be based on Ineos’ slurry phase Innovene S technology for medium density and high density PE (MDPE/HDPE).

The award follows an earlier contract from SOCAR Polymer which was granted in April 2015 for a polypropylene (PP) plant at the site.

Maire Tecnimont’s CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero, said the contract, which was won after an international tender confirmed the group’s distinctive competencies in the polyolefins sector and its capabilities in implementing EPC projects.
