LyondellBasell Wins China Projects

05.05.2021 - LyondellBasell has won another contract to supply its technology in China. Under a deal agreed with Shandong Yulong Petrochemical, the US-managed chemical group will supply its Lupotech T high-pressure PE process for two new lines to produce 200,000 t/y LDPE and 300,000 t/y LDPE/ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) at Shandong Yulong Petrochemical’s facility in Longkou, Yantai, Shandong province.

“With continuous, significant growth in LDPE and EVA applications, and the need for benchmark manufacturing performance to effectively compete in the product market, Shandong Yulong Petrochemical’s selection of our Lupotech T underlines our leading position in process technologies for the production of LDPE and LDPE specialities,” said Neil Nadalin, LyondellBasell’s director of global licensing and services.

This latest win follows a previous PE licensing agreement with Ningxia Baofeng that LyondellBasell announced on Mar. 30. The Chinese firm has contracted to use LyondellBasell’s Spherizone, Hostalen ACP and Lupotech T processes for three new polyolefin lines to be built at Yingchuan City. The complex will comprise a 500,000 t/y PP plant based on Spherizone technology, a 400,000 t/y HDPE plant using Hostalen ACP technology, plus a 250,000 LDPE/EVA line based on the Lupotech T process.

In December 2020, LyondellBasell also declared its technology had been selected by China’s Kaijin Blue Sky Energy (Zhejiang) for two PP plants. A 600,000 t/y PP plant will use Spheripol technology and a 300,000 t/y PP plant will use the Spherizone process. The plants will be built in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province.

Yang Xuanjian, general manager of Kaijin Blue Sky Energy (Zhejiang), commented: “The selected polyolefin technology from LyondellBasell gives us the ability to deliver cost effectively recognized bulk polymers through the Spheripol technology and to supply differentiated high margin polymer products through the Spherizone technology, allowing us to build up our organization on a solid basis.”

LyondellBasell did not disclose a timescale for any of the projects.
