Invista Breaks Ground on US Nylon Expansion

To help supply the expanding global demand for PA 6.6, which it markets as Nylon, US-based trademark owner Invista, now part of Koch Industries, is building a new plant at its Camden, South Carolina, production site, where groundbreaking ceremonies were recently held.

The company that continues the legacy of the polyamide brand invented by DuPont, said it plans to spend around $64 million over the next two years to enhance the South Carolina site’s polymer and fiber spinning production. This will add nine loading docks, 22 storage/packaging silos and bulk loading capabilities.

Without quantifying the expected capacity gain beyond the estimated 250,000 t/y it currently produces at Camden, Invista said the new facility will allow it to “increase the production volume of polymer to new markets, deliver newly developed polymers, implement future volume expansion opportunities and have the flexibility to meet customers’ individual packaging needs.”

The company is partnering with Katoen Natie Specialty Chemicals USA on the project due to be completed in 2024.
