IMCD Acquires Mexico’s Maquimex

02.08.2021 - In its fourth acquisition this year to date, IMCD has agreed to buy Materias Quimicas de Mexico (Maquimex) for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is expected to close during August.

Maquimex is an asset light specialty chemicals distributor providing commercial and technical expertise in the preservatives, household, industrial & institutional (HI&I), energy, water treatment and other industrial markets. The Mexico City-headquartered firm has 44 employees and also has an application laboratory.

IMCD said Maquimex’s industrial and life sciences businesses complement IMCD México’s existing presence in the pharmaceuticals, food, nutrition, beauty, personal care and HI&I markets.

“Over the past 15 months since IMCD Mexico was established, we have created a leading specialty distribution company primarily serving the life sciences markets,” said IMCD Mexico’s managing director, Miguel Ruiseñor. “As we welcome Maquimex to IMCD México, we are together now also able to offer substantial coverage to the industrial markets, reinforcing our commitment to develop opportunities for our supplier partners and to support our customers by delivering solutions and market innovation.”

In June, IMCD made a strategic move into the Chinese coatings market with the purchase of Shanghai Yuanhe Chemicals. A month earlier, the Dutch specialty chemicals distributor strengthened its footprint in Latin America through the separate acquisitions of Andes Chemical and Siliconas y Quimicos.
