Huntsman Forms Korean Polyurethanes JV

Huntsman has formed a joint venture with South Korean polyols producer KPX Chemical. The jv, named KPX Huntsman Polyurethanes Automotive, will develop and produce polyurethane systems for South Korean automakers from KPX's plant in Ulsan. Operations are expected to start by the end of October.

The partnership will leverage Huntsman's ability to develop high-performance differentiated MDI-based products for car manufacturers together with KPX's 47-year experience in polyol technology and knowhow. The companies added that the it will accelerate growth in the South Korean automotive industry, which presents new opportunities for high-performance and light weight PU systems.

"It is an exciting time to be creating a new venture and we look forward to working with key players in the region to meet growing demand for autonomous vehicles and electric transport solutions that can support the country's carbon neutrality ambitions," said Kim Moon-young, president of KPX Chemical.
