Honeywell UOP has won two separate contracts for technology licenses in Thailand and China. The value of the contracts was not disclosed. In the first contract, Thai oil and petrochemicals company IRPC will use a range of Honeywell UOP’s processes for a new aromatics complex in Rayong.

“This complex will enable IRPC to significantly convert its available intermediate feedstocks to higher value aromatics products such as paraxylene and benzene,” said John Gugel, Honeywell UOP’s vice president and general manager, process technology and equipment.

The complex will produce 1.2 million t/y of PX and also increase IRPC’s benzene capacity from 114,000 t/y to 495,000 t/y when it is completed in 2022.

The project will include a Honeywell UOP CCR Platforming unit, which converts naphtha into high-octane gasoline and aromatics, along with an LD Parex unit to recover high-purity PX from mixed xylenes. It will also use Honeywell UOP’s Sulfolane technology to extract aromatics from the feed; Isomar technology to convert xylene isomers into more valuable PX; and Tatoray technology to convert toluene and C9 aromatics into mixed xylenes and high-purity benzene.

In the second contract, the US technology company has been chosen by Shandong Tianhong Chemical to supply its Oleflex propane dehydrogenation (PDH) process for a plant in Dongying, Shandong, China producing 250,000 t/y of polymer-grade propylene. A start-up date was not provided.

This deal marks Honeywell’s 32nd award in China for Oleflex. Honeywell said global production of propylene based on Oleflex technology was approximately 6.8 million t/y.
