Glenfarne and Samsung Link on Chile Hydrogen Fuels
US energy and infrastructure developer Glenfarne Energy Transition has entered into a collaboration with South Korean contractor Samsung Engineering to conduct feasibility studies for multiple green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Chile.
The move is part of Glenfarne’s Hydrogen Fuels Initiative, launched last month with the aim of producing sustainable, zero-carbon hydrogen-based fuels. The initiative includes projects in Texas and Louisiana, USA, as well as Chile, which together will produce approximately 1.5 million t/y of ammonia.
Hydrogen-based fuels generate little to no greenhouse gas emissions and have a wide range of applications across various industries, making them a versatile supplement to fossil fuels.

The first project being developed under the agreement is Green Pegasus, which will have up to 2 gigawatts of installed solar capacity and produce about 459,000 t/y of green ammonia and 89,000 t/y of green hydrogen. A location and timescale for the project was not disclosed.
Once up and running, Green Pegasus will primarily export to Asia, particularly South Korea and Europe, where Glenfarne has several business and commercial partners.
Glenfarne Energy Transition was established last October by parent Glenfarne Group as a wholly owned subsidiary, focusing on high-growth emerging markets. The company operates through three core businesses: Global LNG Solutions; Renewables; and Grid Stability.
Currently, Glenfarne is building a 4 million t/y export terminal in the Port of Brownsville, Texas as a joint venture with Samsung Engineering and Technip Energies. Glenfarne is the majority partner in the venture named Texas LNG and commercial operations are scheduled to start in 2026.
