DuPont Opens New Biopharma Tubing Site

DuPont has officially opened its expanded Liveo Healthcare Solutions biopharmaceutical tubing extrusion plant at its Cooper River site in the US state of South Carolina.

The US chemical group said the facility located near Moncks Corner operates under the same quality standards as the long-standing DuPont Healthcare Industries Materials (HIMS) site at Hemlock in the state of Michigan. DuPont said it worked with local companies, including more than 40 subcontractors, on the expansion that it said was in response to growing demand.

The opening of the site already has enabled the creation of 25 jobs, with another 25 expected to be added by mid-2024, the Wilmington, Delaware-headquartered chemical producer said.

Eugenio Toccalino, global business director of DuPont Healthcare & Specialty Lubricant, said the Cooper River site will bring additional production capacity on stream over the next two years to serve strategic customers and expand the customer base for the Liveo products and solutions.

The investment in biopharma processing manufacturing in the southern US state “is a key milestone in our growth strategy that will help us offer a highly reliable and sustainable product supply,” he said.

Following the Cooper River expansion, DuPont said it expects to add biopharma silicone tubing capacity in China during the second half of 2022 to supply its fast-growing customer base in Asia.
