Global distribution giant Brenntag has agreed to acquire Brazilian chemical distributor Quimisa and its logistics subsidiary Quimilog, headquartered in Brusque, Santa Catarina state. Closing of the transaction is expected in the next several weeks, subject to contractually agreed closing conditions

Brenntag said the Brazilian company with total sales equivalent to €60.8 million in 2018, has a strong market position in supplying industrial and specialty chemicals to regional and international clients in Southern Brazil. Brusque has a predominantly German background.

Quimilog is a major distributor in Latin America and by its own account one of the biggest distributors of caustic soda. The portfolio also extends to hydrogen peroxide and a range of specialty chemicals including textile auxiliaries, dyes and polymers. Customers are the textile, household products, food and beverage and paper sectors.

“For Brenntag, the acquisition of Quimisa is an attractive investment with a strong infrastructure which will allow us to increase our market position in Brazil,” said German Torres, CEO of Brenntag Latin America. The location of its facilities in the states of Santa Catarina, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul and its business model enhance our abilities to support the textile and household chemicals industries,” he added.
