BP to Permanently Close Texas PX unit

BP has announced it will shutter its paraxylene (PX) plant at Texas City in the US with a capacity believed to exceed 1million t/y. The UK-based company cites market conditions as a reason for closing the plant.

BP will continue to operate its two other PX units in the US.

Without providing details the company said that following the closure of the PX facility it plans to reorganize its Texas City Chemicals plant to “better align and scale resources to meet our commitments and support our business goals, while maintaining safe, compliant and reliable operations.”
