Bayer Consolidates Its US Glyphosate Business Under the Name Ruveon

The goal is to tailor the business optimally to the specific requirements of the US market. Ruveon will focus on all aspects of the US glyphosate business—from pricing and market launch strategies to production and logistics.

As a result, Ruveon will be solely responsible for the glyphosate business in the US going forward. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and remains part of Bayer. The announcement of the spin-off of the US glyphosate business comes just a few days after the US Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling on glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.

The consolidation of the US glyphosate business is part of the five-year program for the Crop Science division that was unveiled last year. With this plan, Bayer aims to secure the division’s global competitiveness, align it with sustainable growth and profitability, and strengthen its innovative capacity and operational performance. As part of the five-year program, the company is continuously working to optimize its crop protection business in a highly competitive environment.

As an independent unit, Ruveon can act more agilely and thus better address the specific competitive dynamics in a market dominated by generics. The product and sales teams responsible for the US glyphosate business are now part of Ruveon. This enables Ruveon to supply the US agricultural sector with essential, high-quality glyphosate products.

“Today we take an important step within our Five-Year Framework,” said Brian Naber, Head of Crop Science North America & Australia/New Zealand. “Ruveon’s launch is a sign of our ongoing commitment to excellence in the glyphosate market. Consolidating US glyphosate resources and operations benefits customers, partners and other stakeholders by enabling the Ruveon and Bayer Group teams to fully dedicate the appropriate focus and resources to best meet and anticipate our respective customers’ needs.”

Alfonso Alba Ordóñez is Ruveon’s Chief Executive Officer. He brings more than 30 years of leadership experience within the Bayer Group in the global agricultural industry—having held positions in Europe, South and North America, and China.

Steve Knodle will assume the role of Executive Vice President, Head of Commercial Business. With more than 28 years of experience in the domestic and international agricultural industry, he will lead Ruveon’s commercial sales and marketing teams for glyphosate in the US.
