BASF to Sell Paper Hydrous Kaolin Business to Imerys

BASF has revealed plans to sell its global paper hydrous kaolin (PHK) business for an undisclosed sum to France’s Imerys, a market leader in mineral-based specialty solutions for industry.
The German chemical giant said in September 2014 it was “evaluating strategic options” for the business.
Subject to regulatory approval, the transaction is planned to take place in this year’s third quarter. Some 190 jobs will be affected globally, BASF said.
Imerys will acquire the entire PHK business, including a US production site for milling in Wilkinson County, Georgia.
Following the divestment, BASF said its kaolin business will focus on its leading position in the industrial segments. The group will continue producing kaolin for process catalysts.
To ensure continuity of supply for customers, the Ludwigshafen group will toll manufacture for Imerys and provide other services during a short transition period.
